Autumn & Your Skin!

Autumn & Your Skin!

Seasonal changes have quite an impact on our skin. This is due to a change
in weather but also a change in our day to day lives as well.

The autumn weather often brings a drier air, meaning our skin can start to get
a bit drier, feel a bit rough and lack a bit of moisture.

And being we are now in April; the weather is beginning to change and cool
slightly. So, now is the perfect time to start supporting your skin for this
seasonal change that has well and truly already started.

Here are some of my top tips to help your skin through this weather change:

Think hydration AND lipids
Look at adding or increasing products with Essential Fatty Acids to your
skincare routine. Adding more oils to your routine is actually really good for
supporting your skins barrier as oils are actually an essential part of our
barrier function.

These can actually be used all year round but we can change how they are
added to your routine based around what your skin is needing.
Lipids are important when it comes to helping to keep hydration IN our skin
and slow Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL), which is kind of like the
hydration in our skin evaporating out.

But we also want to make sure we are keeping our skin hydrated as well! So
hydrating products are also a good idea.

For hydration, some of my fav products are:
- Bare Roots Herbal Mist
- SIMKA Bio-Cellulose Hydrating Face Mask
- Dermaviduals Individual Lotion or Face Tonic
- Dermaviduals Custom Hydrating Serum (potentially with an active like
hyaluronic acid and Aloe Vera)

(Dermaviduals is an in clinic only skincare line that requires an Initial Consult to get started on Dermaviduals.)

And for lipids:
- Bare Roots Omega Oil
- Dermaviduals Suusmoon Lotion N – think lipids in a spray bottle!
- Dermaviduals Custom Oil Blend Serum
- Dermaviduals Oleogel S
(Dermaviduals is an in clinic only skincare line that requires an Initial Consult to get started on
Dermaviduals.)

Exfoliate
But don’t go crazy and start exfoliating daily. Once a week is plenty!
And it’s so important to be mindful of what exfoliating product you are using –
we don’t want to cause damage to the skin.
Exfoliating will help to keep that cellular turn over happening and help with any
roughness or flakiness due to our skin being a little drier. It will also help to
avoid a build-up of redundant skin cells which can lead to dull skin and
congestion, even breakouts.

My 2 fav exfoliants are:
- Bare Roots Bamboo Enzyme Peel
- Dermaviduals Peeling Cream

(Dermaviduals is an in clinic only skincare line that requires an Initial Consult to get started on Dermaviduals.)

Don’t forget your SPF!
Just because the weather will start to get cooler does not mean you can skip
your sunscreen. Apply your SPF every single day. Rain, hail or shine! And even if you aren’t going outside. UV still comes through our windows, plus you’ll be surprised how many times you actually go outside. Drive to work? You go outside. Get the mail? You go outside. Decide to pop to the shop? You go outside. So, make it a habit and apply it as the last step of your morning skincare routine. Keep in mind that you should also be reapplying throughout the day as well…

My current favs:
- SIMKA Sheer Mineral Milk SPF50
- Dermaviduals Suncream SPF 15

Book in for a facial!
This will help your skin to adjust to the change in weather and I am also able
to change up any home care products if needed.

Plus, a facial includes an enzyme treatment which will help to aid
desquamation as well as be very anti-inflammatory and detoxifying to the skin.
And let’s not forget all the other skin loving products like serums and masks
etc.

But please remember that the info in this blog post is just a guide and every
skin is different. So, this is where facials or consults are really important as
then I can give you recommendations for your skin individually. After all, no
two skins are the same.

So, if you’re feeling like your skin is feeling a bit drier, maybe looking a bit dull,
seeing those pesky dehydration lines showing up or maybe noticing some
roughness… It may be a result of the season change we are going through.
But regardless of why, which it could be a number of things, just know you are
not alone and your skin can be supported.
